Tintern Abbey
The Cistercian monastery founded around 1200 by William, Earl Marshal on lands held through his marriage to the Irish heiress, Isabella de Clare. Known as Tintern de Voto, this abbey was colonised by monks from the older Tintern Abbey in Monmouthshire in Wales. reflecting the widespread influence of Cistercian monasticism during that period.

Despite the passage of centuries, significant portions of the monastery remain remarkably intact, including the nave, chancel, tower, chapel, and cloister, providing visitors with a glimpse into the architectural grandeur of the past. In the 16th century, the abbey passed into the hands of the Colclough family, who made notable alterations, partly converting the church into living quarters, thus intertwining their own history with that of the abbey.

Over time, the abbey has undergone conservation efforts to preserve its historical significance and protect the local environment, including special measures to safeguard the resident bat colonies.
